6 Tips for a Perfect Voice Over Script
The success of your recording starts well before the studio.
When I started recording voice overs, the Internet didn't even exist yet... That’s how long it's been! Today, platforms like Fiverr have completely transformed the market, allowing you to find a voice in just a few clicks.
However, choosing a great voice is not enough. A successful project starts with a crucial step: preparing your text. A well-designed script is the first step towards a successful voice over. Here are 6 steps to optimize your script.
✨ 1. Prioritize Simplicity
A good voice over script is clear and concise. The listener must understand your message instantly, without effort. Opt for short, direct sentences, and avoid complex phrasing that weighs down comprehension.
👁️ 2. Have Your Text Proofread
An outside perspective is always beneficial. Ask a third party to read your script to eliminate superfluous terms and clarify any ambiguities. Every word must have its importance.
🌍 3. Use Neutral Language
If your project targets an international French-speaking audience, opt for standard French and avoid overly specific regionalisms. Don't hesitate to ask for a professional opinion if necessary.
📍 4. Adapt Your Text to the Region
Beyond language, consider cultural differences. A French cultural reference might not resonate with a Canadian or African audience. Also remember to adapt currency units (Euros €, Dollars $) and measurements according to the target market.
⚠️ 5. Verify Translation Quality
If your text has been translated, review it again. Automated translations are often approximate, and a poorly translated text gives an amateurish impression that can harm your brand image. Ensure you work with native translators to guarantee quality.
✅ 6. Finalize Before Ordering
Ensure your text is in its final version before sending it for recording. Any changes made afterwards can lead to delays or additional costs for a new studio session.
